That’s Some American Muslim Life (TSAML) is a podcast series inspired by its NPR
counterpart, which aims to bring stories of American Muslims to a wider audience. We interview people all over the country and turn their profiles or particular moments in their lives into a well edited audio production.
As a doctoral candidate researching American Islam and editor of an award-winning magazine, The Islamic Monthly, Amina has understood the ins and outs of the American Muslim community. She holds a certificate in documentary production and filmmaking from NYU where she started to work on documenting the stories of the lives of American Muslims. This audio production is inspired by one of Amina’s biggest role models and the NPR counterpart. The stories she records on a weekly basis have brought out deep emotions with Amina and the crew, and she hopes to convey those emotions to the listeners of TSAML. Through her work, she has been recognized by The British Council’s Our Shared Future Network and is selected as an Aspen Institute Ideas Scholar of 2012.
Patricia is a writer and artist who has worked in multimedia for the past 20+ years: as a producer for 360KID, Mazer Digital Media, and Illumina Interactive, and developing content for Pearson, Addison Wesley Longman, and WGBH, where she wrote and edited for the PBS websites to accompany Culture Shock and The American Experience. She also managed development of educational materials to accompany WGBH’s Americas Telecourse, Interactive NOVA: Animal Pathfinders, and The Miracle of Life. She holds a BA in English from UC Santa Barbara, a Masters in Multimedia from the Sorbonne in Paris, and a post-masters degree in Art from the Sorbonne.
Stasia DeMarco manages to keep her public radio sensibilities sharp and current even as she works regularly with a commercial station and tries her hand at various web-based productions. From producing commercial station KYW’s on-demand podcast to hosting and producing the monthly Drexel University College of Medicine’s Medcast T, Stasia demonstrates how audio skills can mesh with the media of the present and the future. Based in Philadelphia, Stasia got her radio start at KBOO in Portland, Oregon while in grad school. She is also currently an assistant professor teaching journalism and audio production in Drexel University’s school of Communication and Culture.
Douglas Stevens has produced more than 5000 music and audio recordings, which include music scores, songs, radio programs, podcasts, sound design and post production soundtracks for film and video projects for television/cable networks, Fortune 500 companies, documentaries, motion pictures, non-profits and educational institutions, advertising agencies, terrestrial radio, satellite radio, internet, and a variety of entertainment projects. Some of his clients included Discovery Channel, Showtime, PBS, WGBH, Frontline, Harvard University, American Red Cross, The Boston Globe, Sirius XM Satellite Radio, American Life Television, Thomson Reuters and many more. He is also a radio host at Sirius XM satellite radio, a comedy producer, and an accomplished ASCAP songwriter and publisher with worldwide broadcast song and music placements in film and television. Some of his awards include Emmy, Telly, Promaxx, ISC, AMI and two Grammy nominations.
Zishan Ahmad is a tech community builder, entrepreneur and web development expert. In his community building, he currently organizes the Stamford Tech meetup, and JavaScript, PHP and Hackers & Founders meetups. He is also a co-founder and leading development of Foretuit.com, a predictive sales analytics platform aimed at helping sales persons close more deals faster. Zishan formerly led web and voice application development for a $30 million Unified Communications product at Webley Systems. He holds a Computer Information Systems degree from Benedictine University.
